Workin Too Hard
Lyrics
there was a time i was just a boy
i made a little money
i drank some wine and made a lot of noise
i never saw the end coming
now i'm just another working man
without a dime to my name
i lost everything i had
in a suckers game

now i got to work until i fall down
just to keep the wolves away from the door
i ain't lookin for a handout
but i can't take it any more
look at me

(workin too hard)
workin every day workin every night
got me workin like a mad dog
(workin too hard)
i got to keep it up
i got to keep on workin

once i had a life i took it slow and easy
i used to get my breakfast in bed
i had my kids at my feet
but hard times were coming
i got caught in the rat race
now every day is like the one before
like i'm runnin in place

take a look at where i wound up
just trying to make through every day
i ain't lookin for a handout
but i can't live this way

(workin too hard)
workin every day workin every night
got me workin like a mad dog
(workin too hard)
i got to keep it up
i got to keep on workin
Short Song Description:
Reggae song with a Memphis flavor, lamenting modern slavery.
Long Song Description:
Musically inspired by Toots Hibbert, who added Memphis Soul to reggae and ska. The lyrics are autobiographical - this is my story.
Story Behind the Song:
After spending my youth as an off-the-grid hustler I got ripped off and lost everything. I ended up with a straight job that barely paid the bills and got trapped in a debt spiral. There's no way out.
